Welcome to the Reeves Bay Home Page!
Reeves Bay, located in the Town of Southampton. The ecological
importance of the Bay is threatened by polluted stormwater runoff. In
2006 the Peconic Estuary Program (PEP) developed a Watershed Management Plan for
Reeves Bay (Restoration Plan). Since then, the
Peconic Estuary Program has partnered with the Town of Southampton to secure grant
funds to implement the stormwater remediation projects identified in the plan.
These road drainage improvement projects will capture and treat polluted
stormwater runoff before it has a chance to enter the Bay.
On April 30th, PEP and Town of Southampton (Town of Southampton
) held a Reeves Bay Public Watershed Meeting. Property owners and the
general public were invited (click here
for copy of letter) to hear about the upcoming road drainage improvement
projects and discuss actions residents can take to compliment the structural
projects (click here for powerpoint).
Thanks to those of you who were able to attend the joint Peconic Estuary Program (PEP) and Southampton Town Stormwater
Runoff remediation presentation and discussion on April 30th. We had a great turnout to kickoff this important project! Please click here to view the thank you letter.
Together, the Peconic Estuary Program, Town of Southampton and YOU! Can help protect and restore Reeves Bay
and the Peconic Estuary! Continue to check back here for progress reports on the
project and future watershed event and activities!
Past Reeves Bay Events
On Friday July 24, Peconic Estuary Program staff lead a guided beach exploration in Reeves Bay. Fifteen participants walked the beach early that evening with buckets, nets and shovels in-hand and discovered a suite of natural treasures including shells, fish, crabs, ospreys and salt marsh vegetation. After learning some interesting facts about each, participants then discussed why it's so important to protect Reeves Bay water quality and the habitat it provides.
